Accufloc Streaming Current Monitor

Accufloc Streaming Current Monitor, for the Automatic Control of Chemical Coagulation

A Streaming Current Monitor (also called a Streaming Current Meter or Streaming Current Detector) is an instrument to measure the surface charge on particles in a liquid. This measurement is most commonly used in controlling the dosage of coagulant before the settling process in water treatment.

The exact level of streaming current for optimal settling will depend on the plant. Once this has been determined, by knowledge, experimentation or jar tests, a Streaming Current Monitor can be used to automate the process of coagulant dosing to maintain optimal coagulant dosage levels, even in the presence of raw water changes.
Streaming Current is directly related to Zeta Potential, but is not the same measurement.

Introductory Overview

The sensor is a teflon piston reciprocating into a stainless steel, teflon and epoxy sensor chamber. The piston is attached to a 90W (1/8HP) industrial motor and an all stainless steel customised drive train to provide the reciprocating motion at 200 strokes per minute.

The sensor chamber and the piston can easily be removed for maintenance or replacement.

The Accufloc has two LED displays, the lower one displays the streaming current reading and the upper one displays the streaming current reading's offset from the set-point.

The AccuFloc can support up to two 4-20 mA outputs, up to 2 alarm relay outputs and RS485 / Modbus digital communications.

Push-button calibrations (both zero and span) can be performed on any samples, and the zero offset can be manually adjusted at any time.

The AccuFloc has a digital averaging function to compensate for sample variations due to incomplete mixing. The averaging period is adjustable from 1 - 60 seconds.

An optional, built-in, PID controller means that the Accufloc can directly control the coagulant dosing process.

An optional flushing mechanism on an automatic, integrated, timer clears accumulated floc from within the sensor.
